Today, I would like to tell you about a time when I received a phone call from someone I didn’t know while I was in a public place. It was an unexpected yet memorable experience that left a strong impression on me.

This happened about six months ago when I was at a crowded shopping mall (shopping mall = a large indoor center with various stores and entertainment facilities. Trung tâm thương mại). I was enjoying a coffee at a café near the entrance when my phone started ringing. The number was unfamiliar, but out of curiosity (curiosity = the desire to learn or know about something. Sự tò mò), I decided to answer the call.

The person on the other end introduced herself as a representative from a recruitment agency (recruitment agency = a company that helps organizations find employees. Công ty tuyển dụng). She said she had found my resume online and thought I might be a great fit for a position her client was offering. I was initially taken aback (idiom: taken aback = surprised or shocked by something unexpected. Bất ngờ, ngạc nhiên), as I wasn’t actively job hunting at the time.

After listening to her details, I politely told her that I appreciated the opportunity but would need some time to consider it. She suggested sending me an email with more specifics, which I found to be a practical idea. I made sure to thank her for reaching out before ending the call.>> Form đăng kí giải đề thi thật IELTS 4 kĩ năng kèm bài giải bộ đề 100 đề PART 2 IELTS SPEAKING quý đang thi (update hàng tuần) từ IELTS TUTOR

As for how I felt about the experience, I must admit it was a mix of emotions.

Firstly, the call made me realize how important it is to stay composed (phrasal verb: stay composed = remain calm and collected. Giữ bình tĩnh), even in surprising situations. Had I reacted impulsively, I might have missed out on a potential career opportunity. Luckily despite feeling nervous, I managed to listen carefully and respond appropriately.

Secondly, it emphasized the value of networking (networking = building relationships with others for professional purposes. Tạo dựng mối quan hệ). Although the situation was unexpected, it reminded me to always be open to new opportunities. For example, this random call might have connected me to a job that could significantly enhance my career prospects.

In conclusion, this experience taught me not only to handle unfamiliar situations gracefully but also to see every unexpected event as an opportunity to grow.

IV. Part 3

Why do some people not care that their behavior disturbs people around them?

Some people disregard how their actions might inconvenience others because they lack empathy (sự đồng cảm). This could stem from their upbringing, where they were not taught to consider the feelings of others. For instance, a person who loudly talks on their phone in a quiet library may not realize they are being intrusive, as they prioritize their own convenience. Additionally, they might view public places as shared spaces (không gian chung), where everyone is free to act as they please. This mindset leads to behaviors such as playing loud music, believing it is their right. A lack of self-awareness (sự tự nhận thức) further aggravates the situation, as they may not reflect on how their actions affect others. For example, individuals engrossed in their own needs might not notice the annoyed looks of bystanders. This problem is often exacerbated when they see others behaving similarly, which reinforces the idea that such actions are acceptable.>> IELTS TUTOR hướng dẫn PHÂN TÍCH ĐỀ THI 30/5/2020 IELTS WRITING TASK 2 (kèm bài sửa HS đạt 6.5)

Why do some people not care what they do in public places?

Many individuals act carelessly in public because they feel a sense of anonymity (sự ẩn danh). In a bustling crowd, they assume that no one knows or recognizes them, which emboldens them to behave irresponsibly. For instance, someone might litter or skip a queue, believing that they won’t face consequences. Furthermore, some people exhibit this behavior due to a me-first attitude (thái độ đặt bản thân lên hàng đầu), prioritizing their own needs above societal norms. This attitude is often evident when individuals push through crowds without regard for others, showcasing blatant disregard for common courtesy. Peer pressure also plays a role, as they might be egged on (bị kích động) by friends to act in ways they usually wouldn’t. For example, a group of teenagers might vandalize a bench in a park, thinking it’s harmless fun. Over time, this creates a vicious cycle where such behavior becomes normalized, further eroding public etiquette.

New Vocabulary:

  1. Empathy: Sự đồng cảm
  2. Shared spaces: Không gian chung
  3. Self-awareness: Sự tự nhận thức
  4. Anonymity: Sự ẩn danh
  5. Me-first attitude: Thái độ đặt bản thân lên hàng đầu
  6. Egged on: Bị kích động
