Discourse Markers trong IELTS SPEAKING

Bên cạnh Bài sửa đề thi IELTS WRITING TASK 2 ngày 22/8/2020 của HS đi thi đạt 7.0 writing, IELTS TUTOR hướng dẫn Discourse Markers trong IELTS SPEAKING

IELTS TUTOR lưu ý:

• Discourse markers là các từ, cụm từ hoặc cách diễn đạt được sử dụng để mở đầu, dẫn dắt và kết nối các câu văn cũng như chỉ ra những mối quan hệ giữa các ý trong lời nói. 
• Người nói dùng “discourse markers” như một cách sắp xếp và phát triển ý, hoặc thể hiện thái độ, cảm nhận của mình về những gì đang nói. 
•  “Discourse markers” cũng được xem như những từ thừa (fillers) giúp lấp đầy những khoảng ngừng khi người nói cần suy nghĩ để tìm ý hay từ vựng. 
• Discourse markers giúp lời nói tự nhiên hơn mà không làm ảnh hưởng đến nghĩa gốc.

IELTS TUTOR lưu ý:

• Nối 1 câu với ý trước đó hoặc theo sau đó
• Thể hiện thái độ của người nói vì thế khi nói những từ này chúng ta phải lên giọng (higher pitch) hoặc nhấn mạnh hơn một chút (strong form).

• Đối với việc sử dụng tiếng Anh trong giao tiếp hằng ngày nói chung và ở bài thi IELTS speaking nói riêng, các từ, cụm từ nối (discourse markers) được biết đến như một trong những công cụ hiệu quả giúp nối các câu hay liên kết ý văn, nhằm hỗ trợ mục đích diễn đạt và tăng thêm độ trôi chảy, mạch lạc (Fluency and coherence), một trong 4 tiêu chí chính để đánh giá phần thi nói của IELTS SPEAKING

Qua bảng tiêu chí chấm điểm trên IELTS TUTOR lưu ý:

• Thí sinh ở các band điểm thấp thông thường chỉ sử dụng được các từ nối đơn giản một cách lặp đi lặp lại hoặc lạm dụng chúng quá nhiều. 
• Để đạt đến band 7, thí sinh nên sử dụng càng nhiều, đa dạng các từ nối khác nhau một cách hợp lý, linh hoạt.

IELTS TUTOR lưu ý trong các ví dụ trên, các “discouse markers”, trong đó :

• “So”, “Well” là những từ nối để mở đầu cuộc hội thoại, lời nói.
• “Honestly” thể hiện thái độ thành thật của người nói.
•  “You see” là từ nối ra dấu hiệu mong muốn chia sẻ một thông tin mới đến người nghe và “You know” được sử dụng để đưa ra thông tin mà người nói trông đợi rằng người nghe đã biết.
• “On top of that” và “What’s more” giúp thêm thông tin vào các ý trước đó.

Một số từ nối khác phổ biến thường gặp trong phần thi Speaking IELTS TUTOR có thể kể tên như:

• Discourse markers (chính là linking words) sử dụng trong Speaking không giống với discourse markers sử dụng trong Writing vì tính chất bài thi Speaking của IELTS khá là informal nên các từ như Moreover, Therefore, As a result,… hầu như không phù hợp mà thay vào đó là And, So, You know, Actually, In fact, I mean,… .
